The UFC’s February return to Brazil continues to fill up with the addition of a new fight between countrymen.
Yuri Alcantara (28-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) is set to meet Wilson Reis (17-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in a battle of Brazilian bantamweights at UFC Fight Night 36. UFC officials announced the contest on Thursday.
Featuring a middleweight main event between Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi, UFC Fight Night 36 takes place Feb. 15 at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Caarina, Brazil. The card airs on FOX Sports 1 and streams on MMAjunkie.com, though the night’s bout order has yet to be revealed.
Alcantara will be looking to rebound from an August loss to Urijah Faber at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston. Alcantara appeared to have Faber in trouble in the first round, but went on to drop a unanimous decision. Alcantara is fighting in his fourth weight class. The former welterweight, lightweight and featherweight made his bantamweight debut in January, but had to endure a no-contest when it was ruled his punches against Pedro Nobre were landing to the back of Nobre’s head.
Reis debuted with the UFC in September and extended his winning streak to five when he beat Ivan Menjivar by unanimous decision at UFC 165 in Toronto. The former Bellator fighter has not lost since that promotion cut him loose following back-to-back losses to Patricio “Pitbull†Freire and Eduardo Dantas.
With the addition, the UFC Fight Night 36 card now includes:
Lyoto Machida vs. Gegard Mousasi
Yuri Alcantara vs. Wilson Reis
Francis Carmont vs. Ronaldo Souza
Cristiano Marcello vs. Joe Proctor
Viscardi Andrade vs. Nicholas Musoke
Andy Ogle vs. Charles Oliveira
Jesse Ronson vs. Francisco Trinaldo
Thiago Tavares vs. Zubair Tuhugov
Rodrigo Damm vs. Ivan Jorge
Nate Loughran vs. Erick Silva
