Born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 26, 1986, 30-year-old Jeremy Stephens is a force to be reckoned with in the featherweight division. Known as “Lil Heathen”, he’s famous for his raw passion and high energy in every fight.
Long before he was ever a fighter, Jeremy was always a competitor and an athlete. In school, he participated in wrestling, basketball, and baseball. He had a hard road to run, though, as his parents split when he was just eight years old, and he was soon transferred from one school to another. Not only was he constantly changing schools, though, but his home life was extremely unstable, bouncing between different apartments and shelters until, finally, his father gained full custody, and he could settle into focusing on his education and his athleticism.
Stephens started watching MMA fights with his dad around this time, and he’d daydream about one day being one of those great fighters in the cage. Fortunately for his dreams, there was a local fight club just a few miles away, where he could train with a variety of fierce fighters, including Josh “The Dentist” Neer, who would become a great mentor and close friend.
Today, Jeremy trains all day, every day, saying, “Every day I’m blessed to train and to be alive and healthy. I get after it all day every day.” He credits his rough childhood and his father’s support as much as his athletic participation for getting him where he is today as a professional MMA fighter.
So far, Jeremy has won the 155-pound belts for MCC and UGC, and his favorite techniques are Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu. He’s had 17 wins by KO, two by submission, and he won’t be stopping any time soon. Look for more success and a lot more takedowns from Jeremy “Lil Heathen” Stephens.
