When most people think of fitness, they think about the physical benefits that it provides. Sure, any type of physical activity is going to be beneficial in providing optimal health and growth—especially for children. However, there is another added benefit to engaging in physical fitness—specifically mixed martial arts—and that is emotional growth and success in life.
Along with that, there is also a set of values that go along with participating in mixed martial arts. These values include:
All of these philosophies are taught by a sensei that has gone through the ritual of studying and understanding the tremendous amount of structure and discipline that mixed martial arts requires.
Of course, children who participate in mixed martial arts also learn a lot about self-defense and how to protect themselves. While this may not be necessary at a young age, it is certainly useful to know as children get older and become adults.
A confident child will grow up to become a confident adult who is not afraid to pursue their goals and even take chances that they might not have ever taken if not for their martial arts training.
Aside from self-confidence, respecting people of authority and having self-control will also play an important part as a child develops. These values will keep them on the straight and narrow where they will understand the value and importance that elders play in their lives and how maintaining self-control keeps them out of trouble or from flying off the handle during difficult situations. Too often, children never fully come to realize how to manage their emotions and for some, this can become a problem later in life. Mixed martial arts teaches kids how to transfer these intense emotions to something less harmful and more productive.
