In the main event fight for the vacant NABA junior featherweight title, Christopher Martin (22-0, 6 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision victory over Charles Huerta (16-3, 9 KOs) on Friday night at the Hangar, O.C. Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, California.
Pressing the action form the opening bell, Martin boxed well and early gained the advantage. In the ninth round, Martin landed a low blow that dropped Huerta for a few minutes before the bout was resumed. Overall, Martin was a better puncher, showing great footwork and boxing well behind his jab. All three judges scored the fight in favor of Martinez â€“ 96-94, 96-94 and 99-91.
In the co-feature, Ronny Rios (14-0, 6 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision against Georgi Kevlishvili (12-2, 3 KOs) in his toughest fight to date. The scores were: 78-74, 77-75 and 77-75.
In the opening fight, junior lightweight Joel Diaz (3-0, 3 KOs) scored a first round stoppage of Kendall Ward (0-3). Diaz dropped Ward with an overhand right and finished him minute later via left hooks and right crosses. The referee stopped the fight at 2:19.
